Upon his graduation from The University of Texas Law School in 1989 Rick Rutledge served a tour in the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, California, where he worked as both a prosecutor and a defense counsel in a busy trial shop.
Upon leaving the USMC in 1993, he went into private practice and successfully handled large and complex matters all over Texas.
In 2012, Rick decided set out in a new direction and opened Rutledge Law Office, P.C..
Rick was voted one of Houston's Best Lawyers in 2008 and once again by his peers in 2017. He has been recognized both by peers and judges as an AV-rated trial lawyer (Preeminent 2012, 2021, 2022, and 2023) for both ethical standards and professional ability.
Since founding Rutledge Law Office, P.C. more than a decade ago, Rick's practice has continued to focus on construction, commercial, tort, and indemnity/insurance issues.
A member of the Texas Bar since 1989, Rick is also licensed to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court and U.S. District Court (Southern, Eastern and Northern Districts of Texas).
Rick is a native Houstonian and has four grown children. Rick's interests are spending time with family, college football, the Houston Astros, as well as baseball of any kind and level.
As the first General Manager for the MtB Mustangs and the long-time and winningest Varsity Head Coach of their high school baseball team, Rick’s jersey (#2) was retired in 2011.
This book is a curated collection of timely and relevant thoughts from the Daisy Cutter blog. The "landing zones" being cleared here are of the ideological sort.
Daisy Cutter was eventually linked/cited by the likes of Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit, Slate, CBS News, Hugh Hewitt, and the New York Times, among others.
These writings will challenge your thinking about the foundational principles that undergird the United States—because understanding, defending, and promoting them is vital to keep America as that “shining city” among nations.
You will see that these principles are expounded with the spirit of a happy warrior in these pages.
"Rick Rutledge is a good man who loves his family, his country, and God. We need more like him."

Can attitude really overcome circumstances?
And what do the title and cover have to do with anything?
These probing questions, and more, will be answered inside this book. I invite you to join me as I recount a rather interesting year.
In a world where everyone is supposed to have it all together, or expected to shut up if they don’t, I believe in keeping it real, and staying flexible in the face of the inevitable twists and turns of life.
